BelNIPIneft

The Belarusian Research and Design Institute of Oil is one of the leading institutes of the oil industry in the CIS countries, which solves the problems associated with the search, exploration and development of oil and gas fields.

BelNIPIneft is a part of Belorusneft since 1991.

Specialists of the Institute have experience working in the fields of Belarus, Western Siberia, the Republic of Komi, the Kaliningrad region of Russia, Ukraine, Ecuador, Venezuela, India. By the beginning of 2020, the Institute staff has 89 scientists, 459 engineers, 13 candidates of sciences and 55 masters. 

BelNIPIneft scientific research results are patented and registered as inventions. They have been successfully implemented in the Belarusian oil region and beyond. BelNIPIneft have developed technologies such as maintaining reservoir pressure in gas-condensate reservoirs, development and maintenance of multilateral wells using coiled tubing and downhole equipment, sidetracking with coiled tubing, including underbalanced drilling, multiple-indicator reservoir studies, extended and selective reservoir treatment.

BelNIPIneft is engaged into innovational scientific development and successfully introduces its inventions inBelarusand outside its borders. For the recent five years there have been 41 applications for inventions and utility models filed in Belarus, Russia and Eurasian patent office, 73 patents have been obtained.

By early 2019  the staff  of the Institute includes 90 researchers, 355 engineering and technical workers, 12 candidates of science.

The main goals are the provision of scientific and technical products for the oil producing industry of the Republic of Belarus, the provision of engineering services, the solution of certain problems of oil production under contracts with enterprises of near and far abroad.

BelNIPIneft offers engineering services: from the development of programs for experimental and field works, the adaptation of technologies (with the conduct of laboratory and hydrodynamic studies) to their implementation, maintenance and author supervision.

Institute laboratory facilities are fitted with high-technology equipment and appliances which include:

  • PVT FLUID EVAL Vinci Technologies unit for physical and chemical properties study of formation fluids;
  • Mettler Toledo titrators, densiometer, analytical scales;
  • Oxford Instruments sulfur-in-oil analyzer;
  • Thermo Electron Corporation sulfur in sour oil analyzer;
  • Tanaka SL analyzers of fractional oil content and sour oil;
  • Walter Herzog GmbH analyzers for pour, blush, maximum filtration temperature, kinematic viscosity testing of oil and sour oil;
  • Agilent 1200 chromatography recorder, Agilent 7890 with mass detector, Agilent 6410 QQQ (Triple quadrupole);
  • Dionex ICS-3000 ion chromotograph ;
  • Horiba LA-950 lazer particle analyzer;
  • Physica MCR 301 Anton Paar rotary rheometer;
  • Kruss K 100 МК2, KRUSS DSA 100 E, SVT 20N, DataPhysics Instruments GmbH tensiometers;
  • TA.XT.plus texturometer;
  • Autoflood-700 Vinci Technologies devices for straining action study of original core sample;
  • Corrosion study unit AA-KONKOR used for simulating well conditions and studying corrosion processes and testing materials under HPHT conditions;

Recent versions of modern software of leading global producers are applied in designing and modeling.

All of this enables broad range of scientific and technological research. Its results affect design choice on development, technological research and implementation, EOR, updating of methods of drilling, oil production and transportation.

BelNIPIneft has developed and implemented a number of technologies, among which:

  • Pressure maintenance in condensate reservoirs;
  • Development and remedial maintenance of multi-lateral wells using downhole equipment and coiled tubing;
  • Sidetracking using coiled tubing, including underbalanced drilling;
  • Polyindicator formation evaluation;
  • Extensive and selective reservoir stimulation.

By the beginning of 2016 the staff of BelNIPIneft included:

  • 100 research engineers;
  • 370 engineers;
  • 13 PhDs.

Technology

Since 2015 BelNIPIneft has its own Core Studies and Processing Center, designed to

  • long-term core storage according to the developed and approved standards.

In 2020, BelNIPIneft created Seismic Exploration Center, which processes and interprets seismic data acquired in Belarus and abroad. The SEC includes 4 sectors and 1 unit:

  • sector for structural interpretation;
  • sector for dynamic interpretation;
  • sector for monitoring seismic projects and downhole seismic exploration;
  • seismic data processing and archiving sector;
  • microseismic monitoring unit.

SEC core functions:

  • identification and preparation of hydrocarbon traps for exploratory drilling;
  • detailing oilfield geology based on a comprehensive analysis of seismic data, drilling and other G&G methods;
  • detailing geological structure of near-the-well areas;
  • determination of actual fracture direction in the formation during hydraulic fracturing.

Certification

The works performed by BelNIPIneft institute have been certified to correspond to the international standard ISO 9001-2008 as well as Belarusian standard (STB) ISO 14001-2005. Most of the institute laboratories have obtained special accreditation.

BelNIPIneft does research & development in the sphere of inventions and utility models and successfully implements them in Belarus and abroad. Over the past five years, 23 applications for inventions and utility models have been filed to the patent offices of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the Eurasian Patent Office. 22 patents for inventions were received, of which 5 patents for inventions of the Republic of Belarus, 2 patents for inventions of the Russian Federation and 15 Eurasian patents.
